8 Simple Ways To Practice Daily Self Care

8 Simple Ways To Practice Daily Self Care

Self Care is an important step to take for looking after your mental health. It's so easy to overwork yourself and this can completely run you down. It can be hard to take care of yourself when you feel like you're juggling a dozen things at once, but practicing self care doesn't have to be hard, or take up a bunch of time. Here are 8 simple tips for your self care to help you prioritise your well being every day. Also be sure to comment your top self care tips too as I would love to hear them!

My Top 8 Self Care Tips:

1 - Take Time To Unplug:

We spend so much time scrolling through our phones that we end up consuming so much information. The world can be such a crazy place (especially right now) with all of the negative news and information being shown to us that it can really have an effect on your mood and energy. Although this information may be important for you to be tuned in to every day, you should still take time for yourself even if it is just while you eat breakfast in the morning or while you are on a walk. Turn off your phone or put it away for a few minutes everyday and allow yourself some time to focus on your own life.

2 - Put Effort Into Your Meals

It might be easier to get a meal to throw into the microwave or order a takeaway, but I find that a lot of the time when I do this I don't feel great afterwards. Cooking can be a really mindful activity as it gives you something to focus on and it is really rewarding to sit down to a delicious home cooked meal. This is also a much healthier option so your looking after your body and your mind at the same time! You can find so many delicious, easy to make and healthy recipes online.

3 - Get Your Body Moving!

No matter where you look for self care advice on the internet you will 100% come across exercise as the number one tip. I've personally never been the type of person who was into exercising so I do understand how people may not be able to relate to this one, but it is important to get your body moving and your blood flowing. So if you are the type of person who fully can commit to going to the gym every single day then go for it! If you are like me then you can go on walks, do some at home workouts (you can find plenty on youtube that can suit your level of fitness) or even just get some stretches in. It doesn't have to be a complete hardcore work out, just giving yourself some exercise time for a few minutes everyday is good for your well being.

4 - Do Something Entertaining

Entertainment is a great way to unwind, whether it's watching Netflix, listening to a podcast, reading a book or if you are like me you can play some Animal Crossing. I would suggest doing this at the end of the day or when you are completed the jobs you wanted to do during that day or else you will just be distracted all day (unless you are extremely disciplined and have the willpower to get back to work!)

5 - Get A Good Night's Sleep

I'm guilty for not getting enough sleep every night (again....I find it hard getting off animal crossing!!!) but it is true that the more sleep you get at night the better you will feel the next day. You'll be able to get up earlier, get more work done, you wont feel tired and you will be completely energised for the entire day. So get yourself those Z's!

6 - Talk With Friends

Talking to your friends is always a great way of self care. Whether you meet them in person for a coffee, have a zoom call with them or even having text message conversations. Humans are social creatures so it really is important to connect with people and to stay in contact with the people we love the most.

7 - Journaling

I know that journaling isn't for everyone, but it's something I have really gotten into the past year. Getting all of my thoughts and feelings out on paper has been really good for clearing my mind, improving my mood and generally makes me feel much better about tough situations. I find that having my emotions written out in front of me helps me to think of the advice I would personally give someone if they came to me with the same situations. I can see the bigger picture more clear and it lets me identify solutions to any problems I have easily.

8 - Do A Good Deed

I believe in good karma, so by doing a good deed the favour will be returned. Doing something kind for someone else can be very rewarding and it can make you just feel nice! This can even be as small as sharing someones blog post, complimenting someone, giving money to charity, help your family out around the house or just going out of your way to do something to help someone else. It feels good to be nice and if more people shared kindness with each other the world would be a lovely place.
